DuraSeal™ spine sealant is composed of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and trilysine solutions. When mixed, these liquids cross-link to form a 100% synthetic, absorbable hydrogel.
After applying sutures, position the applicator tip approximately 2 cm from the target site. Firmly depress the syringe to spray the pre-loaded 2 mL of sealant over the suture line.
After rapid diffusion of the precursors into tissue crevices, a hydrogel forms, developing a strong mechanical bond with underlying tissue to provide excellent tissue adherence, biomimetic elasticity and a true watertight seal.
The sealant’s blue color enables visualization of the hydrogel and the ability to judge thickness of the application.
Cross-links hydrolize over 4-8 weeks, liberating PEG molecules, which are cleared by the kidneys.
